Pharmaceutical Giant, Quinton C Oswald: Nominee For Florida's Medical Award

Born and educated in South Africa, he received his introduction into the pharmaceutical arena when he entered the South African arm of Brystol Myers. He would later be instrumental in the merging of Brystol Myers with Squibb in the high-profile formation of Bristol Myers Squibb.

The year 1993 saw Quinton Charles Oswald moving to the United States, where, again, his expertise and experience in the pharmaceutical industry opened up opportunities for work at the industry giants, Neurotech Pharmaceuticals Inc., Genentech, SARcode Bioscience and the Swiss leader, Novartis.

At Novartis, he rose to the position of Senior Vice President of the company. Oswald also left his stamp at Novartis as the North American region's Head of the Ophthalmic Division.

At SARcode Bioscience, he held the position of CEO, and was influential in the clinical development of 5% Xiidra, the lifitegrast ophthalmic solution used in treating dry eye disease. Oswald contributed to Genentech by serving as its Vice President & Business Unit Head, for the company's Tissue Growth & Repair Endeavor, as well as heading the team responsible for the high commercial viability of  Lucentis.

Throughout his career, Quinton Oswald Florida was at the helm of several development plans and projects. His history in the industry is marked by contributions in his various roles of President of Asia, Middle East, and Africa, Head of Global Marketing & Sales Operations,  President of Latin America and Canada, Chief Executive Officer, and Senior Vice President.

Recently retired, in December 2018, Quinton Oswald was installed as CEO for the final time, at Notal Vision, an internet-based company. The company specializes in telemedicine powered by Artificial Intelligence( AI)tools.

He revealed that on joining SARcode, he was not familiar with any of the 'front of the eye'  ophthalmologists, who were opinion leaders in the therapeutic area of 'Dry Eye'. He immediately recognized the opportunity to help improve the delivery of eye care in this area, and at the same time, solidify SARcode as a leader in eye care standards for the same category. He and his team astutely galvanized and enrolled an impressive group of regional 'Dry Eye' opinion leaders in 12 months, positioning SARcode as a notable player in the area's future.

With a wealth of experience and knowledge in his leadership bag, Quinton Oswald Florida, is still in the business of helping generate ideas and strategies that move organizations forward. Now as an entrepreneur he is excited about the future. Speaking with Idea Mensch he shared that an attitude to which he fully subscribes to is  ongoing "intellectual curiosity", no matter a person's age. "Some people are 30 going on 60 and others are 70 going on 30-it's a state of mind."

With regard to his current interests in the medical field, Oswald indicated that he is excited about the move to growing the area of home-based health monitoring, made more efficient with the assistance of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He believes that this area of patient care is fast becoming the cornerstone of patient-specific medicine.
