Women, Men Say More Solutions Needed In The Workplace In Light Of #MeToo, Survey Reveals

02-05-2018

A Look at Men and Women’s View on Work and Home Life

New York , May 02, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Fairygodboss, The Female Quotient and Progyny partnered on research to explore the differences between men’s and women’s views on work and home life. The survey revealed that although men and women have similar views on topics like how the #MeToo movement has impacted their workplace, they have divergent views when it comes to career prioritization, salary and household management. You can view the full results of the survey here.

Among other findings, the survey revealed that:

  • 78% of men and 75% women say the #MeToo movement has not made an impact at their workplace.
  • 77% of men in relationships said their career takes priority over their partner’s, versus 35% of women; however, 47% of women who answered that their career takes priority said this is the case because they are more ambitious, compared to only 26% of men who gave being more ambitious as the reason that their careers take priority.
  • When it comes to promotions, men are more likely to be promoted by men and women are more likely to be promoted by women.
  • 40% of women said they spend 8+ hours/week on household tasks like cooking, cleaning, childcare and other domestic duties, compared to 29% of men.
  • 50% of women reported that they feel household management is primarily their responsibility, compared to 33% of men.

“We’re always curious to see if what’s happening in the media actually reflects what everyday men and women are experiencing. While the #MeToo movement has captured national attention, our survey shows that there is a lot more work to do to make a real impact in workplaces across the country,” said Georgene Huang, Fairygodboss co-founder and CEO. “We’re thrilled to partner with Progyny and The Female Quotient on this research. We were eager to uncover key differences between men’s and women’s views when it comes to work and home life in the hopes that opening up conversations around these differences can help us identify where progress is still lacking, as well as where to go from here.”

“The #MeToo movement has been instrumental in helping us break the silence and create consequences for bad behavior. It’s given us the confidence to speak up and speak out, because we’re all in this together,” says Shelley Zalis, CEO, The Female Quotient. “Now we need to create solutions for change, and accountability for action. Transformation must include men and women working together.”

The survey, conducted in April 2018, captured responses from 400 participants, 51% of whom identify as female and 49% as male.
